Chatbots are computer programs that typically chat with humans through an interface. The chatbot can communicate with chat mediums such as chatrooms and email, and the chatbots may involve a human or group of humans in this communication at some point. They can either work on their own, impersonating their real-world counterparts, or they can interact with chat mediums concurrently while under the control of a person. Chatbots can also aid companies and other sectors by automating tasks and providing insightful data based on the collected information. These chatbots use natural language processing to combine statistical analysis and artificial intelligence to deliver better results than conventional interfaces by responding to questions formulated in everyday language. The chatbot is one of many different chat mediums, and chatbots can be tailored to many different tastes. They can range from those programmed to provide the chat medium through which their simple needs are communicated (e.g., a chatbot that is set to answer basic customer service questions) to chatbots that offer a specific content feed based on user preferences (e.g., a chatbot that focuses on new news, or one that activates when it senses keywords related to certain stock tickers).
Many chatbots use natural language processing combined with other technologies promoting advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI). Chatbots may implement cognitive capabilities focused on understanding natural language, known as chatbot's ability to simulate a human conversation. Creating chatbots with high-level reasoning capabilities remains an ongoing research activity. Chatbots are often integrated into companies' operations whose aim is to supply information, customer service and sales through chat mediums. Chatbot integration may be labeled as an automated online assistant. A company's chatbot works by pre-scripted responses, usually given an initial user query. Initially, these words are interpreted by the chatbot system only according to predefined instructions set out for any particular type of word but also further contextually because of what might have gone before in the dialogue history.
